Individual Therapy
Individual psychotherapy provides a safe place to resolve inner conflicts, process life’s challenges and transitions, heal from past traumas and examine core values and goals.
The thought of psychotherapy may seem overwhelming to some. However, it can truly be a transformative experience that many people genuinely enjoy. It is my job to collaborate with each client in creating a custom approach that will foster greater peace of mind, better relationships and a more enriching life.
Anxiety & Stress
For many people, high levels of stress and anxiety prevents them from wellbeing. Some can often feel tense, worried, and stuck in repetitive thinking patterns. Others can put too much pressure on themselves to excel in work and relationships, while at the same time never feeling good enough. For some, anxiety can cause you to worry and feel that your life is falling apart.
There are certain signs that your anxiety may require professional support. For instance, does your anxiety appear when there are no noticeable triggers that caused it? Does it reach very high levels such as panic attacks? Perhaps it prevents you from functioning well at work, school, or in relationships. Does your anxiety cause you to turn to harmful coping strategies such as drugs and alcohol? Maybe your anxiety causes you to avoid important engagements and participating fully in life.
Anxiety can affect everyone differently. It can be very challenging to understand and overcome anxiety on your own. My approach will utilize evidence-based techniques to help you feel whole again. My style is gentle, collaborative while also being very active in leading you through the necessary steps to overcome anxiety. Together, we will get to the root of the issue, bringing in more calm, clarity of mind and courage to your daily life.
Depression
Depression is one of the most debilitating mental health conditions and it affects the entire mind and body. Unfortunately, not many people understand what it feels like having a dark cloud over your life or that getting out of bed feels impossible. You can’t just “will” your way out of depression. Many people with depression struggle everyday, doing their best to wear a mask of normalcy, and wearing this mask is exhausting.
As with many other mental health conditions, the stigma of depression is real. Whether you have experienced depression for years or have fallen into a funk and just can’t seem to break out, know that there are effective treatments for depression. I am here to help.
Trauma / PTSD
I really resonate with the way I’ve heard trauma described as being the felt experience of the past distorting the safety of the present. My training in Internal Family Systems (IFS) helps to understand the relationship between parts of our past (i.e., trauma memories) and our present way of being (how we’ve learned to cope with our trauma).
In our work together, I support my clients in healing from their trauma through exercises that help reconsolidate painful memories into ones that embody safety and compassion in the present moment. An integral part of this work is reshaping our trauma stories from one of pain and powerlessness into resiliency, strength and empowerment. Many of my clients have experienced a history of trauma. Creating a felt sense of safety and regaining confidence is possible and I’d be honored to support you.
Addiction
I offer a compassionate and non-judgmental approach to drug and alcohol addiction treatment. Unfortunately, many people experience being shamed and blamed when seeking treatment. Instead, I work with you to develop a personalized approach to help you achieve the quality of life you truly deserve and to have a healthy and secure relationship with yourself and others.
Addiction is complex and it requires a comprehensive treatment approach. Despite popular belief, a person who is addicted to drugs or alcohol cannot simply stop through will power alone. Therapy for addictions can help bring more awareness of your underlying needs and find more effective ways of coping. The most effective addiction treatment addresses all of the underlying needs (i.e. connection, trauma, safety, purpose) as opposed to simply focusing on the addictive behaviors.
Relationship Counseling
I work with couples at all stages to facilitate the creation of secure, lasting attachment and bonding. Together, we will find creative solutions for supporting your entering into deeper and more fulfilling relationships. WE can do this by reinforcing any preexisting positive bonds and patterning, identifying negative patterns in the relationships, establishing realistic ways to solve problems and repair, expanding emotional awareness, and finding new ways to increase security, intimacy and connection.

My Approach
The healing process is a unique and creative experience, and my focus is on creating a safe space to explore whatever brings you to therapy. I will listen to you empathetically, ask questions, offer new perspectives, and even challenge you. Together, we will focus on your strengths and the wisdom with which you have coped with the challenges in your life. We will identify the patterns of behavior that are no longer serving you. We will connect the dots of the story of YOU and identify the roots of your current difficulties. We will practice new skills in the present moment and increase your understanding of how your mind and nervous system really work. Together, we will help you come to terms with your painful past and move you forward with purpose and resiliency.

In working with me, clients develop the tools to regulate their emotions, manage stress, build trust & intimacy in relationships and increase confidence.
Suffering is part of the human experience and there is no reason to go through it alone. We all have an innate wisdom and drive towards healing and growth that supports our capacity to heal ourselves. You have the tools within you and just need support and guidance. Internal Family Systems (IFS)
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is an approach that I often use with clients. It serves as a guide and offers a structured approach to the work. IFS is an evidence based practice supported by an abundance of research studies. IFS identifies and addresses the multiple sub-personalities (parts) or internal families existing within each person’s mental system.
If you have ever said, “A part of me wants to . . . , but another part of me wants to . . . ,” then you have a basic understanding of Internal Family Systems Therapy. IFS recognizes that our minds are made up of different parts that each have their own feelings, beliefs, ideas and intentions. Some of our parts may be in harmony with one another, while other parts may be in conflict (polarized). One part of you might want to stop getting angry while another part of you wants to ensure that you’re advocating for yourself and not being taken advantage of. Perhaps one part of you wants to be successful and high-achieving, while another part of you wants to protect you from disappointment and judgment, so it holds you back from putting yourself out there and trying.
Our parts are carrying burdens that keep us stuck in certain habits of thinking, feeling, and acting. For example, a part of you might be carrying the burden of feeling unloved and unworthy which leads to an imbalanced focus and energy on getting others to like you. Or a part of you might believe that the world is not a safe place which leads to this part keeping you from taking risks that are necessary for your wellbeing.
One of the goals of IFS therapy is to help people understand these burdens and let go of them. In support of this, Internal Family Systems theory holds that each person has a True Self at their core that is wise, compassionate, confident and accepting. The Self is the key to change and through IFS therapy, I will help you strengthen this connection with Self and draw upon its resources.
Internal Family Systems is listed as an evidence-based therapy practice in the NREPP (the National Registry for Evidence-Based Programs and Practices). IFS has been subject to rigorous, independent study, and is considered to show significant impact on mental health outcomes. These scientific findings and the listing of IFS in NREPP attest to efficacy of IFS therapy for promoting emotional healing and mental well-being. More specifically, they highlight the favorable effects on mind (anxiety and depression), body (physical health conditions), and spirit (personal resilience and self-concept).

Somatic Therapy
Somatic therapy is a holistic therapeutic approach which incorporates a person’s mind, body, spirit, and emotions in the process of healing and growth. Somatic therapy takes a different approach than traditional “talk therapy”. It calls on both client and practitioner to pay attention to sensations in your body, impulses for movement, postures as well as mental images, memories, and thoughts.
This approach may begin in session by talking about a current issue and, as you do so, you begin to put attention on how you feel in your body. From here an awareness may emerge that connects to older, deeper, more root issues that continuously surface. As you become more familiar with the root issue, you typically uncover a childhood need that wasn’t met. Often times these needs are very basic such as feeling safe, seen, heard and supported. This work is about meeting the unmet need from childhood in the present moment which allows the body to feel the subsequent comfort and satisfaction. These experiences lead to transformational healing and create long lasting changes.
